Eriksen wishes transfers were as easy as Footy Manager after Madrid links

first_imgCHRISTIAN ERIKSEN wishes his future could have been sorted at the click of a button after a summer of speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.Rumours ramped up when the Tottenham Hotspur star admitted he was seeking a new challenge but the player reckons “it wasn’t” the wrong thing to do.2 Eriksen has been in and out the team since the “new challenge” remarksCredit: Getty Images – GettySpeaking to the Danish media ahead of the international break, Eriksen stated his wish that transfers were as easy as they are in football sim game Football Manager. He confessed: “I wish I could decide just like in Football Manager, but unfortunately I can’t.”Much of the increased speculation was down to Eriksen’s contract being up at the end of the season, the midfielder felt. And he wryly implied that he should have been househunting in Madrid, such was the height of gossip about his future. He remarked: “For me it’s not hard to clear my head. I don’t read much of what is written.”And now I have been involved for many years, where there have been many rumours every year.2″But it’s clear that it’s been a little more rife this year because my contract is about to expire. There has been a lot said about me.”I should have been looking at houses in Madrid [according to the speculation], but I have to be honest and say that all that writing is not something that bothers me. At all.”Rumours are commonplace for almost every player at a club like Spurs these days and Eriksen admitted that they are brought up in the dressing room. However, any remarks tend to be jovial.Latest Football newsSILVA’S GOLDEN GIRLModel Ines Tomaz has been helping Bernardo Silva through quarantineGossipCROWD RETURNFA Cup final ‘may see 20,000 at Wembley in trial allowing some fans at games’CommentPHIL THOMASDiving and whining was never a good look and will seem worse after lockdownExclusive’I’M IN A BAD WAY’Ex-England star Kenny Sansom talks for first time since being attackedExclusiveBOURNE AGAINHowe says Cherries are stronger after lockdown with FIVE fit-again starsExclusiveSWAN THAT GOT AWAYSwansea wanted £3m Davies three years ago but couldn’t get work permitNEXT STEPJonny Hayes set to move to English Championship having been let go by CelticBAYERN 5 DUSSELDORF 0Lewa bags two as Bayern thump rivals to close on 8th straight titleEriksen noted: “We tease each other.”This is how it is in a top club if you have done well.”There will always be rumours. How Spurs will line up at Everton with makeshift defence

first_imgSpurs chiefs worry axing Mauricio Pochettino will benefit their rivals as Man Utd and Real Madrid circle MAURICIO POCHETTINO’S second trip to Merseyside in as many weeks has been made all the more difficult by the growing number of injuries at Spurs.Erik Lamela had been hoping to give his compatriot a boost by returning to the side after he was forced to sit out the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool with a deg leg.2In the 27-year-old’s absence, Christian Eriksen had a torrid time at Anfield in an unfamiliar right-sided role. But the Dane will likely be given the chance to redeem himself at Goodison Park after Spurs confirmed Lamela is still undergoing treatment and will miss the clash. However, Lucas Moura is another option for Poch, with the Brazilian looking for a recall after starting last month’s 1-1 draw with Watford.Danny Rose will miss the trip back up north through suspension after the England full-back collected a fifth booking of the season during the Anfield loss.Ryan Sessegnon has returned to full training following his hamstring injury but Pochettino revealed the 19-year-old is not ready to make his long-awaited debut. He said: “He’s there, I cannot say that he’s complete in the way that we can say we trust him to play 90 minutes.”We have a big squad, it’s difficult to give the possibility [to him], but he’s still young. He needs to work hard, he had a long period of injury, but for sure he is going to get an opportunity to play in the future.”He came from Fulham with a massive injury, we are working hard to try to give the level [to him]. Always when you have a squad like we have, a big squad, you need to wait for the opportunity and be ready.”£1 FREE BET Try your luck with a free bet on any sport with LadbrokesMost Read in FootballTHROUGH ITRobbie Keane reveals Claudine’s father was ’50-50′ in coronavirus battleTOP SELLERGavin Whelan has gone from League of Ireland to David Beckham’s InstagramExclusiveRIYAD RAIDMan City’s Riyad Mahrez has three luxury watches stolen in £500,000 raidPicturedAN EYEFULMeet Playboy model and football agent Anamaria Prodan bidding to buy her own clubI SAW ROORodallega saw Rooney ‘drinking like madman’ & Gerrard ‘on bar dancing shirtless’NEXT STEPJonny Hayes set to move to English Championship having been let go by CelticJan Vertonghen is also pushing for a recall but is unlikely to be risked with Spurs in Champions League action next week.Tanguy Ndombele has played his way into contention after a lively cameo off the bench against Liverpool while Son Heung-min features in the wide attacking role.Fellow summer signing Giovani Lo Celso is also pushing for his first start of the season after he was named in Argentina’s squad for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Uruguay.2last_img read more

‘The Special One could prove to be good for Ireland’s Special One’

first_imgJOSE MOURINHO has not even lobbed a verbal grenade in a post-match interview and the fear is that he could blow up Troy Parrott’s Spurs career. The striker has seriously enhanced his reputation — if that were possible — in the past ten days with two fine performances for two very different Irish sides.1 Troy Parrott of Republic of Ireland celebratesCredit: SportsfileThe Dubliner did not look out of place on his senior debut against New Zealand last week and then scored a brilliant goal on Under-21 duty against Sweden.Replaced in Tallaght on Tuesday, he earned a standing ovation and walked off the pitch to learn that his club gaffer Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked. He was unavailable for interviews following the game but was surely wondering, like everyone else, what it would mean for him.It is far too early to suggest that the Portuguese gaffer’s arrival is bad news for the Parrott.Poch did appear to rate the 17-year-old — but rarely gave him a first-team shot.ONLY ONE APPEARANCEThe ex-Belvedere man’s only senior appearance this season was the League Cup defeat to Colchester in September, and he was replaced after 66 minutes. His only appearance on the bench was against Everton three weeks ago and that was because Harry Kane was injured.Similar to Under-21 colleague Adam Idah, Parrott is highly rated, meaning he is with the first-team rather than youth set-ups but is not high enough up the pecking order to actually play.It means he’s made just five appearances for Spurs across all levels this season.PROMOTE YOUTHThe ex-Manchester United gaffer is understood to have told Spurs he wants to promote youth.Mourinho is considered to be a chequebook manager but he now has six weeks before he can start flashing the cash. And Parrott has the attributes that the Portuguese usually admires. He may just 17 but the frontman is 6ft tall, can bully defenders with his power, evade them with his pace or fool them with his quick feet. Of course, he also has an eye for a goal.As Under-21 boss Kenny has shown, he can also play in different roles — such as advanced midfield and left wing — when Spurs tend to only used him as a No 9.MOST READ IN SPORTTHROUGH ITRobbie Keane reveals Claudine’s father was ’50-50′ in coronavirus battle’I ACCEPT’McGregor accepts Silva fight at UFC catchweight of 176lbs in huge super-fightTOP SELLERGavin Whelan has gone from League of Ireland to David Beckham’s InstagramPicturedA CUT ABOVEMike Tyson shows two-inch cut ‘picked up in training’ ahead of boxing returnExclusiveRIYAD RAIDMan City’s Riyad Mahrez has three luxury watches stolen in £500,000 raidPicturedAN EYEFULMeet Playboy model and football agent Anamaria Prodan bidding to buy her own clubMourinho is likely to stick with Kane as his main striker but Parrott’s versatility could get him a chance in the first team. And does it not sound like the most Mourinho thing ever to give Parrott his wings and then point out it was he, rather than Poch, who did it?The Special One could prove to be good for Ireland’s Special One.last_img read more

Frawley taps into flatmate Reynolds’ advice for Bulldogs-Tigers clash

first_imgReynolds shares a house with Bulldogs five-eighth Matt Frawley, who admits he regularly bounces ideas off the ex-NSW Origin No.6 and former Bulldogs fan favourite.”A hundred per cent. He’s a really good mate,” Frawley said, as Canterbury prepare to face the Tigers in round 12 action on Sunday at ANZ Stadium.”He’s been through it all and being at another club he can give me a few lessons. He’s learnt a lot from here and now he’s learning from other people at other clubs.”We’re always talking footy on and off the field. He’s a really important aspect to my footy and my life.”Frawley has needed to draw on that knowledge bank more recently after coach Dean Pay dropped from the NRL side after two rounds. He returned in round nine after seven weeks in Intrust Super Premiership.Pay told Frawley he wanted him to take the line on more and demand the ball more often.”He wanted me to back myself a little more. He thought I wasn’t doing as much as I probably could have,” Frawley said.So Frawley has taken that advice and combined it with his fireside chats with Reynolds.”Grub is pretty good but he doesn’t give me too much specific stuff… it’s more being there as a mate,” Frawley said.”He believes in my football ability and gives me confidence. He tells me to go out there and back my ability. He’s always good to bounce off. He comes to me for advice; I go to him for advice. It’s good to get it all out in the open when we’re at home.”I am lucky to have him there. He’s done a lot of things – played Origin and grand finals. So he’s had a lot of experience – been through it all – and especially here at the club he knows all the ins and outs and how it all works.”When you do get dropped you sort of get doubts. But I’m pretty lucky I’ve got a good support base with Grub, my family and the boys around here.”Frawley also wanted to lift the spirits of his halves partner Kieran Foran, who has also been suffering the yips with his form after missing a lot of football in the past two years. They toiled away in Sunday’s clash with Cronulla but couldn’t get the Dogs home in the narrow loss.”I can’t speak more highly of Foz as a person and as a footy player. He’s been another massive person to help me throughout the process,” Frawley said.”His efforts are always there. He’s starting to get his body right and that is sometimes the issue. His body is better week by week and he’s getting back to playing every weekend. I love playing alongside him.”last_img read more

Lampard fired up to battle Gerrard again

first_imgFrank Lampard is fired up to face Steven Gerrard for the first time in MLS when New York City host LA Galaxy on Saturday. The former Chelsea star will come up against Gerrard for the first time since joining the ex-Liverpool captain in the United States top flight in 2015, with Lampard having missed the 5-1 defeat at Galaxy’s StubHub Centre in August due to injury. The one-time England team-mates, now 38 and 36 respectively, have been on strong runs of form in recent weeks, with Gerrard joint top of the assist charts with 11 and Lampard having scored nine goals in his last 10 appearances. And Lampard believes they will be able to enjoy meeting one another more than they did during a heated rivalry between Chelsea and Liverpool during their Premier League careers.”It’s normal, we’re used to it. It was Lampard versus Gerrard in the England team, it was Chelsea-Liverpool for many a year. I love it,” he told ESPN.”I think we’re more relaxed about it and we can enjoy it more these days. It was quite intense, Liverpool against Chelsea, we played each other so often.”It wasn’t just me and Steven, obviously, but people were always billing that as a midfield battle.”I enjoy it. I get on very well with Stevie, he’s doing very well over there and he’s had a fantastic career, he’s a legend of the game.”I look forward to going up against him. Of course, when we step out, we want to beat each other. Not just him, but Ashley Cole, Robbie Keane, people I’m familiar with.”But we’ll enjoy the rivalry and I’ll try to come out on top.”New York sit top of the Eastern Conference after 25 matches, while Galaxy are third in the Western standings.last_img read more
