Former manslaughter convict jailed on wounding charge

first_imgPaul Johnson, who is accused of chopping his co-worker several times about his body, was on Friday hurled before the courts to answer to a wounding charge.The 39-year-old man appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and admitted to the charge which stated that on September 20, 2019, at D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Chandrika Vickram.Jailed: Paul JohnsonPolice Prosecutor Sanj Singh informed the court that the Virtual Complainant and Johnson are known to each other and were working at a construction site when there was a misunderstanding.Johnson reportedly left the scene after being annoyed, but moments later returned with a cutlass and dealt the victim several chops about his body then fled the scene.Vickram was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).A report was later made to the police and Johnson was arrested and charged.Prosecutor Singh further informed the court that Johnson previously spent 15 years behind bars on a manslaughter conviction. He was charged for murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.Johnson was jailed for three years for chopping Vickram.last_img read more
