Mikel retires from Nigeria duty

first_imgJohn Obi Mikel has announced his retirement from international football after helping Nigeria to third place in the Africa Cup of Nations.The Super Eagles lost to Algeria in the last four in Egypt, but atoned for that disappointment to a degree with a 1-0 win over Tunisia in the third place play-off.That game marked the last appearance in a Nigeria shirt for Mikel, who confirmed the end of his career for his country in a post on Instagram. Thursday, the athletic directors for both schools issued a joint statement, calling for fan bases to be more welcoming in the future.The decision to move on from the investigation has apparently upset some Iowa band members. A student named Corey Knopp took to Facebook on Thursday night to express his disappointment in his school for not doing more after the incident.In the post, Knopp alleges that after the game, as the band members marched in formation back to their bus, they were subjected to being shoved and having beer cans “shaken and sprayed” at their feet. He also alleges that one of his bandmates was left with broken ribs.Another band member, Jack Buchanan, says that there was sexual assault as well.
